Four STAHL 70/30 t Overhead Cranes with Tandem Mode for a Combined Cycle Power Plant, Ratchaburi

ALLA installed four STAHL 70/30 t overhead cranes in the two Turbine Halls of a combined cycle power plant in Ratchaburi, with tandem mode for 120 t turbine lifts.

Project Highlights

  • Tandem mode lets two 70/30 t cranes lift turbine parts of up to 120 t together
  • Crane settings adjusted on a tablet, protected by user access codes
  • Avoided a single crane of about 135 t plus a lifting beam, at a much higher cost
  • Lower crane height let the customer reduce the building height and construction cost

What did the customer need?

The EPC contractors building a combined cycle power plant in Ratchaburi needed two overhead cranes in each of its two Turbine Halls, able to work individually or in tandem to install large, heavy turbine parts:

  • GT rotor 120 t, generator rotor 98.3 t, ST LP rotor 84 t and LO unit 70 t
  • Tandem lifting with millimetre precision: 1 inching step = 1 mm
  • Height difference between the two cranes during a tandem lift of no more than 2 mm/m

How did ALLA deliver it?

ALLA supplied STAHL cranes and programmed their operation to the precision the customer required. Settings can be adjusted on a tablet, and only users with an access code can change them. Lifting in tandem with two cranes saved the customer the much higher cost of a single crane of about 135 t with a lifting beam, and allowed the building height to be reduced.
